One animal has walked beside you since your first breath.

Where your guide comes from

For as long as we have lived beside animals, we have seen ourselves in them.

The word "totem" comes from the Ojibwe word doodem: the animal of a family, a clan, carried in North America long before it was ever written down. But the deeper impulse, to see ourselves in an animal and let it walk beside us, is older still: we painted it on cave walls tens of thousands of years ago, long before any writing.

The Chinese zodiac gives you an animal by the year of your birth. The Aztecs read a nagual, a companion spirit, in the day you were born. The Celts found deep meaning in the stag, the raven and the salmon. And across the plains of North America, the medicine wheel gave each person, by the moon they came into the world under, an animal and an element to carry for life.

These are not one single tradition. They are one long human intuition, older than writing itself: that an animal can hold up a mirror to who we are, and keep us company on the way.

The Time Edit is not a sacred lineage, and does not pretend to be. We simply let ourselves be moved by the richness of these traditions and, with respect, shaped a gentle guide of our own.
